Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten polymerization time and to obtain the titled polyether easily, by reacting an alkali metal salt of a bisphenol with a polyfunctional halide in the presence of a catalyst transferring in phases, followed by adding a halogen-containing compound to carry out the reaction.
CONSTITUTION: (A) An alkali(earth) metal salt of a bisphenol (eg., resorcinol, etc.) shown by the formulaI[M and M' are alkali(earth) metal; Ar is bifunctional aromatic group] is reacted with (B) a polyfunctional halide (e.g., methylene chloride, etc.) shown by the formula II[X and Y are halogen; R is bifunctional (substituted) hydrocarbon group, or a group shown by the formula III (Ar' is Ar)]in the presence of (C) a catalyst transferring between phases (e.g., tetrabutylammonium bromide, etc.).
