Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the scanning positions of an image scanning system accurately by determining the position of a carriage which carries an image scanning mirror with a certain fixed point as a basic point. CONSTITUTION:A light shielding plate 17 is secured to a carriage 16 which is secured with a mirror 6. A position detecting means is constituted of said plate 17 and a photosensor 18 provided in the position A. A counter CO1 is held cleared while the sensor 18 detects the plate 17. When the plate 17 deviates from the detecting visual field of the sensor 18 and the movement of the carriage 16 is toward the image scanning direction, the counter CO1 counts up the synchronizing pulses from a rotary encoder 15, and if it is in the resetting direction, the counter counts down the same. As a result, the count code indicates the carriage position in the image scanning direction accurately with the initial position as a basic point. In this way, the scanning position of the image scanning system is detected accurately.
