Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically determine nitride nitrogen in a quick and accurate manner, by a method whetein a sample mitride is placed in a molten alkali in a crucible and a carrier gas with an inert gas added to steam is introduced into a reactor accomodating the crucible for coulometric titration of NH3 generated. CONSTITUTION:A sample nitride is fed at given intervals into a crucible 5 containing alkali 4 such as NaOH accomodated in a reactor 1 comprising a cell 2 made of Ni and a glass upper lid 3 from a sample feeding three-way cock 9 at the top of the upper lid 3. After scoured 11 with sulfuric acid, an inert gas 10 such as Ar is passed sequentially through a flowmeter 12, an NaOH particle- filled column 13, an electric furnace 14 and a Ti particle-filled column 15 to remove NH3, O2 and the like and a clean carrier gas thus obtained is fed into molten NaHO with a hydrogenation lance 17 passing through a steam supply bottle 16. NH3 gas generated is introduced into coulometric titrator 18 from the three-way cock 9 for determination. This enables accurate measurement of nitride nitrogen in a continuous and quick manner.
