Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled rubber derivative useful for the manufacturing of molded articles, etc., without addition of catalyst, by reacting an epoxy compound with a partially neutralized product obtained by the partial neutralization of a liquid rubber having carboxyl group with a bivalent metal compound.
CONSTITUTION: A liquid rubber having terminal carboxyl group (e.g. polybutadiene) and a bivalent metal compound (preferably Mg) are stirred thoroughly in a reactor preferably at 100W150°C to obtain a partially neutralized liquid rubber (preferably having a neutralization degree of 10W50%). The objective metal- containing liquid rubber derivative can be prepared by reacting the liquid rubber with an epoxy compound having two or more epoxy groups (e.g. bisphenol A diglycidyl ether) preferably at 100W180°C. The amount of the epoxy group in the reaction mixture is adjusted to 0.5W5 equivalent per 1 equivalent of the carboxyl group.
