PURPOSE:To prevent malfunction due to a test signal, by automatically detecting a horizontal scanning period to which a clock synchronizing signal (character broadcast signal) is inserted, gating the clock synchronizing signal, detecting the amplitude fluctuation, and operating the automatic gain control. CONSTITUTION:A clock synchronizing signal only is gated at an analog switch 2 and given to a band pass filter 3. This signal is given to a comparator 4 and a clock synchronizing signal is counted with a counter 5 limited to a time when the clock synchronizing signal is located. On the other hand, the output of a filter 3 passes throuh an analog switch 12 only at the location of the clock synchronizing signal insertion of the horizontal scanning period, and the amplitude fluctuation of the clock synchronizing signal is detected with a peak hold circuit 13. This detected output is supplied to a gain control terminal of a video amplifying circuit 1.
