CONSTITUTION:A voltage lowering transformer 2 is connected to a transmission line 1, and a main circuit in which a reactor 3 is connected in series to a thyristors 4 connected in adversely parallel to each other is set at the secondary side of the tranformr 2. Then the active power is detected by a control circuit 25 via a current transformer 23 for meters and a transformer 24 for meters. A slow fluctuation component is extracted out of the detected active power by an LPF. Then an operation Q=a+bp+cp<2> is carried out by means of a signal P and by using (a), (b) and (c) as the constants. The current flowing to the reactor 3 is adjusted by controlling the ignition phase of the thyristor 4 so as to be equal to the obtained reactive power Q.
