PURPOSE:To continuously obtain a thin polarizing film of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer by drawing a film consisting of a copolymer contg. vinyl alcohol and a dichromatic dye. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of a copolymer contg. 50-95mol% vinyl alcohol with a dichromatic dye is formed into a film. The film is drawn usually 3-8 times in one direction without causing fracture, or it is further drawn about 1.1-2 times in a direction perpendicular to said drawing direction to obtain a polarizing film. The used copolymer contg. vinyl alcohol includes an olefin-vinyl alcohol copolymer and a vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol copolymer. When the film is crosslinked, by drawing the film with heating, a crosslinking reaction can be initiated in the latter half of the drawing process, or the film can be cross-linked by irradiation.
