Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a three-dimensional network material having mutually interconnected inner spaces formed with network structure of activated carbon, utilizable as a formed article having a definite shape, and composed mainly of activated charcoal.
CONSTITUTION: The titled three-dimensional material can be formed easily in arbitrary size and shape, e.g. shown as the formed articles 1. The three-dimensional material 1 has the steric structure composed of lattices 2 connected randomly with each other to form a network structure having complicate shape, and has mutually interconnected irregular inner space S between the lattices 2. The lattice 2 forming the space S is made of particles of activated charcoal 3 bonded with each other through a small amount of a binder such as kibushi- clay, vitreous material, etc. The network material 1 can be prepared, e.g. by removing cell membranes from foamed PVC, polyurethane, etc., forming the material having a steric skeleton structure to a desired shape, immersing the material in a slurry having a compositon of e.g. the table unitl the material is impregnated uniformly to the core part, removing the excess slurry attached to the surface of the material, drying and solidifying the slurry, and calcining the material in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to decompose and ash the organic steric skeleton structure.
