Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a bearing against seizure or other troubles, by forming circumferential ring-like grooves always containing therein a liquid metal in liquid-tight, annular band-like sections having pockets constituting a static bearing formed axially, and thereby affording lubrication on metal contact of the bearing to a turning shaft. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of circumferential grooves 19, 19 are formed in the outer surface of a journal 10 constituting liquid-tight, annular band-like sections 16, 16. These grooves 19, 19 intersect axial grooves 17, 17 formed in a bearing 9. Further, a plurality of pockets 14 are formed axially in the bearing 9 so as to introduced a part of liquid metal carried under pressure into the pockets 14. With such an arrangement, if metal contact is caused at the annular band-like sections 16, 16 due to displacement of a shaft 5 caused, for instance, by an earthquake, seizure or deterioration of the bearing can be prevented by reducing temperature rise at the contact points since Na is always filled in the grooves 19, 19 through grooves 17, 17 and serves as cooling medium at the contact points.
