Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the position of the underground buried conductor by providing a returning current wire, changing the laying position of the wire, and measuring the change in the direction of the magnetic field generated from the conductor and the wire at two separated points. CONSTITUTION:The returning current wire 14 and an oscillator 15 are connected to the buried conductor 11 and closed loop is formed by utilizing a branch pipe 12, a corrosion preventing terminal 13, and the like. An AC is flowed and an alternating magnetic field is generated. When the coordinates of a point P and the direction of the buried pipe are given, the depth position of the buried pipe is obtained. When the wire 14 is deviated from the position directly over the conductor 11, an error occurs. The measurement is performed by utilizing said error. When the actual depth of the conductor 11 is 2m, the distance (a) of the wire 14 is changed by 0.2--0.3m, and the directions of the magnetic field at the measuring points P1 and P2 are measured. Then the change in the depth of the conductor 11 is taken, and curves (g) and (h) in the Figure are obtained. The true depth 2m is obtained from the intersection.
