Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a working temperature of a cell, by a method wherein, in a detector for an oxygen concentration in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine, a resistor, whereto an AC voltage is applied, is positioned adjoining a solid electrolyte, of which an oxygen concentration cell consists, to detect impedance of a resistor and an electromotive force of a cell. CONSTITUTION:An external electrode 8, consisting of a heat resisting conductive material, such as platinum, and a reference electrode 9 are mounted to an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolyte 7 to constitute an oxygen concentration cell. A resistor 11 is firmly adhered to a part of the electrode 9, and an electrode 10 is attached to the outer surface of the resistor 11. The electrode 8 makes contact with gas to be measured, and a part, whereto the resistor 11 is not firmly adhered, contacts the air or known oxygen concentration gas. An AC power source 12 with a frequency, in which polarization of an AC component consists of a mainly polarization of the inside of the resistor, is connected to the resistor 11, and an AC voltage detector 14 and a DC voltage detector 15 are installed. This permits finding of the temperature of the resistor 11 through finding of the impedance of the resistor 11. The oxygen concentration cell is firmly adhered to the resistor 11, which results in enabling to find the temperature of the oxygen concentration cell following the temperature of the resistor 11.
