Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for lapping work by forming grooves at prescribed pitch while a part with core width is left in the axial edge direction of a butt block, and then cutting the block by a cutting knife-edge which has thickness less then the groove width. CONSTITUTION:In a butt block, grooves having cutting width t1 greater than array pitch t2 and depth d1 are worked by using a knife-edge of a resin system having high grading while parts with core with HW are left on both flanks on a magnetic sliding surface side. The cutting depth d1 is set 50-100mum greater than gap depth. Then, the core block is cut completely by a knife-edge of a metal bond system having cutting width t2 and cutting depth d2, and wax is molten to detach magnetic head cores from a cutting and bonding jig 7, thus obtaining the magnetic head cores having steps. This magnetic head core is free of chipping at its edge parts.
