CONSTITUTION:Luminous flux from a light source 20 is made into a parallel beam by a collimation aspherical mirror 21, and the beam is passed through a polarizing beam splitter 22 and a lambda/4 plate 23 to obtain circularly or elliptically polarized light, which is reflected and condensed by a condensing aspherical mirror 24 to form an extremely small spot on a prescribed surface of an information recording medium 25. Its reflected beam passes through an astigmatism system of a convex lens 26 and a cylindrical lens 27 and focused on a photodetector 28. A housing 29 is fitted to an arm 30 and supported by a gimbals 31. A focusing and tracking driving means 33 exercises position control.
