Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a porous coating layer without generating strength reduction or peeling by a method wherein a kneaded compound obtained by containing and dispersing a carbonaceous powder or the like in a heat resistant binder is coated on the surface of an object to be coated and the resulting coated object is baked until the carbonaceous powder or the like is burnt off.
CONSTITUTION: A kneaded compound obtained by containing and dispersing a powdery org. substance (e.g. epoxy resin) or a powdery carbonaceous substance (e.g. carbon black) in a heat resistant binder based on an organosilicon compound (e.g. precondensate of methyl phenyl silicone) is coated on the surface of an object to be coated and the resulting coated object is baked until the aforementioned org. substance or the carbonaceous substance is burnt off to make the coating layer porous. By this method for forming the porous coating layer, the porous coating layer having numberless fine pores can be formed without generating strength reduction or peeling and, therefore, can be utilized in various uses such as a catalyst, a sensor, a sound absorbing material, a certain underground coating or a special film.
