PURPOSE:To obtain a vertical magnetization system magetic head having high wear resistance and long life, by using a hard material as a head base material and by inserting a head material into a space formed in the head base material. CONSTITUTION:In the center of a head base material 1 using a hard material, a cylindrical and coincal space part is formed, and a magnetic material 2 for a head is inserted into the space part; and a coil part composed of a magnetic material part 3 and a coil 4 is provided where a contact part touching a magnetic recording body faces. Then, information is recorded with a magnetic recording medium in contact with a head surface. The magnetic recording medium consists of a reflux layer 7 of permalloy, etc., provided on a ceramic recording base plate 6 and a vertical magnetization film 8 of a thin film of Co-Cr alloy, etc. As the head base material, any high-melting-point, high-hardness material, such as SiC, WC and B4C, other than oxide is usable besides high-hardness materials such as sapphire and ruby. Using the high-hardness material as the head base material improves the wear resistance of a vertical magnetization system magnetic head and also prolongs its life.
