Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent settling of the middle of a blade where a low-elasticity plate-shaped material is attached to a rubber elastic material and they are fixed by a metallic holder, by allowing this blade to intersect a drum at a prescribed angle and setting the ratio of the thickness of the contact end face of the blade to lengths of free parts in both side faces of the blade to a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A rubber blade 1 and a plate-shaped member 2 consisting of metal or plastic having an elasticity lower than that of the blade 1 are made into one body with an adhesive or the like, and they are surrounded with a metallic holder 3 and are fixed. An angle theta of intersection between this cleaning blade and a photodensitive drum is set within a range of 45-90 deg. in the cleaning side, and a thickness (b) of the drum contacting bottom face of the blade, a length (c) of the free part of the balde in the cleaning side face, and a length (a) of the free part in the noncleaning side face are set to satisfy the relation as (a<=b<=c). Thus, the minute deformation of the blade end face of the cleaning face is restricted when the blade is brought into contact with the drum, and settling of the middle of the blade is prevented to hold a good cleaning characteristic.
