Abstract
PURPOSE: In dehydrogenating 1,2,3-cyclohexanetriol in the presence of a metal catalyst, e.g., nickel, etc., to obtain the titled substance in high selectivity useful as an organic intermediate for synthesizing a physiologically active substance, etc., by carrying out the reaction in an inert gas flow.
CONSTITUTION: 1,2,3-Cyclohexanetriol as a raw material is hydrogenated in the presence of at lest one catalyst of metal selected from nickel, rhenium, and silver in a flow of an inert gas, e.g., nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, steam, methane, etc. not participating in the reaction, at 100W500°C, preferably at 150W350°C at normal pressure to reduced pressure, to give pyrogallol. The metal catalyst is preferably supported on a carrier, e.g., active carbon, silica, etc. for use, and the addition of an alkaline metal compound to the metal can improve further selectivity and stabilize the catalytic activity.
