Abstract

PURPOSE:To rapidly damp the torsional oscillation of a vibration system, by opposing the magnetic pole faces of a fixed magnetic yoke, which is provided with an electromagnetic winding, to a rotary body to cause an electromagnetic force to suppress vibrational displacement. CONSTITUTION:When an exciting current is supplied from an exciting power source 15 to an electromagnetic winding 14 in energy storage and discharge operation, magnetic flux is produced in a fixed magnetic yoke 13 so that the magnetic flux intersects a rotary body 12. In the energy storage and discharge operation, steplike or impulsive load torque acts on the rotor 5 of a motor generator 1 so that a torsional vibration system including the rotor 5 vibrates and the rotary body 12 also vibrates in the yoke 13. When the rotary body 12 performs rotational displacement due to the vibration, the quantity of magnetic flux which performs intersection in unit time changes so that an eddy current is caused on the surface of the rotary body 12. An electromagnetic force caused by the eddy current and the magnetic flux suppresses the torsional oscillation of the vibration system.
