Abstract
PURPOSE: A novel N-cycloisopropylidenylmalonate-substituted benzoheteroring compound is heated together with polyhosphoric acid to produce the titled compound, an antibacterial, through a shortened process in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: An N-cycloisopropylidenylmalonate-substituted benzoheteroring compound of formula I (R1 is H, lower alkyl; X is halogen; m and n are 1 or 2 respectively) is heated together with polyphosphoric acid to about 50W200°C to produce the benzoheteroring derivative of formula II. The compound of formula I is novel and obtained in high yield by the reaction between a benzoheteroring compound of formula III and cycloisopropylidenyl lower alkoxy-malonate. Both compounds of formula III and IV are known and readily available.
