Abstract
PURPOSE:To discriminate between characters and a background part by separating reflected light from each character by colors, by binary-coding image signals obtained by photoelectric conversion by colors, and by inputting only the character by logically operating the binary-coded signals. CONSTITUTION:Photoelectric conversion parts 11 and 13 generate and output image signals, which correspond to the intensity of incident light, to binary-coding circuits 21 and 23. The binary-coding circuits 21 and 23 binary-code those input image signals. An AND gate 6 receives and ANDs three binary-coded signals to output a binary signal of a ''0'' or ''1''. The thus obtained ''1'' indicates a character printed on a form 2, and the ''0'' the background.
