CONSTITUTION:To a coating liq. for forming a gelatin film is added a compound represented by the formula (where Z is a substituted or unsubstituted benzo ring, R is alkyl or aralkyl, Y is halogen, and X(-) is an anion; yet when an internal salt is formed, X(-) does not exist) as a hardening agent for photographic gelatin, or when a gelatin-contg. layer is developed, it is dipped in a soln. contg. said compound. Thus, a gelatin film with water and abrasion resistances and high mechanical strength is obtd. with no deterioration in the photographic characteristics.
