Abstract

PURPOSE: To save resources and reduce the discharging of a fermentation residue, by treating a fermentation liquor taken out of a fermenting tank continuously at a low temperature and reduced pressure to recover ethanol, and circulating a yeast through the fermenting tank for reuse.
CONSTITUTION: A substrate is fed from a line (A) to a fermenting tank 3 and fermented continuously. The resultant fermentation liquor at a given concentration is then taken out of a line (C) and fed to a separator 5 while being heated by a heat exchanger 4. The heating temperature and the degree of vacuum in the separator 5 is about 35°C and an absolute pressure of about 50mmHg for an ethanol concentration of about 8% in the fermentation liquor. The ethanol evaporated in the separator 5 is then fed from a line (D) to a condenser 6 and recovred from a line (E). On the other hand, the yeast liquor separated in the separator 5 is mostly circulated through a line (F) and the fermenting tank 3 while partially being expelled as a fermentation residue from the system.
