PURPOSE:To make sufficient gradation adjustment possible irrespectively of an input picture signal in accordance with the sensivitiy degradation and the like of a photoreceptor by adjusting the picture spot information density formed by a dither processing circuit by selecting a threshold value in addition to exposure adjustment. CONSTITUTION:Comparators Q0... of set resistance R0... according to density threshold values are provided to a dither processing circuit, and the picture spot information M formed of the density signals D1... of matrix configuration is formed successively by a dither processing circuit in accordance with the input picture information. The picture spot information of the matrixes M... formed by the prescribed signals D1... is selected in accordance with the density adjustment commands applied to selection circuits SL1, SL2. Hence, besides the exposure adjustment such as exposure time, the adjustment of picture density insufficient with this adjustment is carried out in the dither processing circuit as well. As a result, the sufficient gradation adjustment of pictures is accomplished in accordance with the density degradation and the like of a photoreceptor irrespectively of the input picture signals.
