Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently recover valuable components from waste gas discharged in the manufacture of carbon black by allowing CO2 and CO in the gas to be absorbed in solvents and separating hydrogen by an adsorbing method.
CONSTITUTION: Furnace blow gas after recovering carbon black is cooled to a temp. close to ordinary temp. by combining direct cooling by water spraying with indirect cooling using a heat exchanger, and the pressure of the gas is raised to about 20atom. Gaseous CO2 in the gas is recovered by an alkali soln. circulating system decarbonating method, and the residual gaseous CO2 is converted into sodium carbonate with an aqueous NaOH soln. CO in the gas is then recovered by the Cosorb's method using a soln. of cuprous aluminum chloride in toluene as an absorbing soln., and the residual CO is converted into methane. After separating gaseous nitrogen and Ar by sub-zero cooling, gaseous hydrogen is recovered by a molecular sieve method.
