Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a unifrom pitch efficiently abd continuously, by adding a specific amount of a cracked oil having substantially the same carbonizing temperature as that of a residual oil from a parrafin base oil to the residual oil, and carrying out the thermal decomposition.
CONSTITUTION: A residual oil from a paraffin base oil in a tank 1 is mixed with 5W30wt% cracked oil having substantially the same carbonizing temperature as that of the residual oil in a tank 2, and the resultant mixed oil is then passed through a pipe still in a heating furnace 6, heated and then fed to a reaction column 7 kept under nonoxidizing conditions by an inert gas, e.g. N2 gas. The mixed oil is heat- treated at 450W550°C and separated into an oil and a pitch. The resultant pitch is then withdrawn from the bottom and stored in a pitch reservoir 17. On the other hand, the oil is fed from the top of the reaction column 7 to a catalytic cracking column 10. The formed lihgt fraction is recovered by traps 12, 12' and 12". The heavy fraction is passed through the bottom of the column 10 to a heating furnace 14, and a catalyst is recovered in a separator 15 and circulated through the cracked oil in the tank 2.
