Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart weldability, too, to a steel plate of improved corrosion resistance by specifying the coating weight of electric nickel plating at the time of applying said plating on a steel strip then electrolytic chrome plating thereon.
CONSTITUTION: A steel strip for plating is cleaned of surfaces by alkali degreasing and pickling, after which it is applied with Ni plating. The coating weight of the Ni plating is kept at 1W100mg/m2 per one side. Next, electrolytic Cr plating is applied, whereby a Cr-plated steel plate is obtained. The coating weight of the Cr plating is kept at about 3W30mg/m2 per one side. Thereby the weld zone of high airtightness which is limited of the chromium oxide layer and metallic chromium layer having surfaces of poor condutivity and heat conductivity, is improved of weldability by the presence of Ni of a m.p. lower than those of Cr, and Fe and of superior conductivity and heat conductivity, and is necessary for production of cans for various kinds of food is obtained. Further, the formation of rust in the case when it is stored in a place where the measure against dew condensation is insufficient is prevented by the presence of Ni.
