PURPOSE:To contrive to enhance the yield of iron and that of Mn by a method wherein a lance for top-blowing a refining gas is continuously moved along a locus other than a circle during a refining process. CONSTITUTION:In a steelmaking furnace, the lance for top-blowing a refining gas is moved along a locus other than a circle during the refining process. For example, the locus of the movement may be a triangle, a square, a rectangular, an ellipse, a star, a chrysanthemum shape, a saw-tooth shape, a vortex or the like. The lance is continuously moved in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional manner so as to form a locus which consist of one of the above-mentioned figures or a combination thereof. In this case, the moving speed of the lance may be either fixed or varied, according to particular requirements. By this method, the slag forming properties during the refining process and the dephosphorizing ratio can be enhanced and the degree of oxidization of the slag can be reduced. In addition, the yield of iron at the time of finishing the refining and that of Mn added in the form of a ferroalloy are enhanced.
