Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the heat transmitting area per unit volume and improve the heat transmission efficiency of the heat exchanger by arranging within a fluid passage the heat transmission pies of a relatively small diameter intersecting to form grid as a whole and piled in a layers.
CONSTITUTION: Two pairs of pipe plates (10a, 10c) ad (10b, 10d) are opposed to define the fluid passage 11, and between these pipe plates are supported the heat transmission pipes 13a and 13b which intersecting each other to form a heat transmission pipe group 12. The heat transmission pipes 13a and 13b are all opened outside of the pipe plate 10aW10d to communicate with rectangular spaces 16aW16d formed outside of these plates 10aW10d with boxlike members 15aW15d. The spaces 16a and 16d are connected and opened with inlet pipes 18a and 18b, while the spaces 16c and 16d are connected and opened with outlet pipes 19a and 19b. With such a construction, the heat transmission area per unit volume can be enlarged, thereby providing a compact heat exchanger without degrading the performance thereof.
