Abstract

PURPOSE:To quantitate sugar side chain related to cancer and to diagonse accurately various cancers by reacting a sugar side chain related to cancer in body fluids with lectin which is capable of forming a complex with N-acetyl-D-galactosamine, and measuring an amount of the complex formed, or the residual lectin. CONSTITUTION:A sugar side chain (shortly expressed as TAG hereafter) related to cancer which is produced by cancer cells in body liquids is separated from body liquids, and reacted with lectin which has ability to form a complex with N-acetyl- D-galatosamine(expressed as AG hereafter), then an amount of the TAG-lectin complex or the residual lectin is measured. Otherwise a labeled lectin is added to a body liquid itself and reacted with it, and the TAG-labeled lectin or the residual labeled lectin is separated, then TAG in the body liquid is quantitated by measuring either amount of them.
