Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the compressing efficiency of a multi-value time series signal, by changing the value of the signal delivered most frequently into an unequal length code in terms of the run length and changing other signal values into the unequal length codes in terms of the level respectively. CONSTITUTION:The multi-vlaue time series signal is divided by a synchronous signal and through a timing control circuit to be applied to the 1st and 2nd coders 5 and 4. A code R of an unequal length showing the run length of the value of the signal delivered most frequently plus a code showing the run length of the code R are obtained by the 2nd coder 4; while a code V of an unequal length showing the levels of other signal values plus a code showing the run lenght of the code V are obtained by the 1st coder 5, respectively. A synchronous signal plus the codes R and V are multiplexed through a multiplexer 6, and a code showing the run lenght of each signal is multiplexed to be applied to an unequal length code array converting circuit 7. Thus the display signal showing the effective bits on the parallel data lines plus a signal with the ineffective bits eliminated by the display signal are obtained through the circuit 7.
