Abstract

PURPOSE: To securely prevent a pressed seat surface from leaking, by forming a swelled head part at a pipe end, thereafter machining and forming a number of parallel grooves of serrated section in circumferencial direction of the pressed seat surface of said head part.
CONSTITUTION: A double wound steel pipe 1 is wound backward along the pipe length to form a linear recess 8 in the leading rim part, and in the resulting end part 1' of the pipe a working allowance having a constant length is projected. It is gripped by a chuck 6, and pressed from outward tip in the axial core direction by a punch member 5 to permit said part 1' to be formed into a bridgeshaped swelled head 2 having a pressed seat surface 3. Then from the tip said of the swelled head 2 gripped by a chuck 6', a cutting tool 7 is abutted to the surface 3, and either of the members is rotated so that a member of parallel grooves 4 of serrated section are formed on the surface in its circumferencial direction.
