Abstract

PURPOSE: To cut a flat ingot hot longitudinally with high performance and form the same into optimum sectional shapes by forming both side parts of the flat ingot with edgers on the inlet side of cutting rolls and properly opening or closing appropriately a pair of guides for ingot on the inlet and outlet sides.
CONSTITUTION: A slab 8 is formed to the sectional shapes shown by the rolls 4a of edgers 4, and is shifted to the position of side guides 2. The guides 2 move forward and backward and backward each other (open and close) to firmly hold both side faces of the slab 8 thereby positioning the slab 8 in such a way that an intended cutting line passes the leading end position of the V-shaped cutting blades of cutting rolls 1. The slab 8 is screwed down by the rolls 1 and is shorn by the upper and lower cutting blades. Side guides 3 prevent the cut slab 8 from bending too much. The shapes of the cut parts of the cut slab are approximately the same as the shapes of both side parts of the slab 8 before cutting owing to the screwing down of the cutting blades, and this is advantageous for rolling in the next stage.
