Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve workability of a weld zone remarkably in manufacture of an welded tube by forming the welding edge of a tubular skelp to an X-shaped groove of specified angle and performing welding adjusting the amount of squeeze after heating.
CONSTITUTION: When rolling an edge face 13 of a tubular skelp 9 using a fin pass roll made up of a roll 12 consisting of a fin 10 and edge rolls 11, 11', and a lower roll 12', the edge face 13 of the skelp 9 is formed so that X-shaped groove angle α becomes 5W20° using a fin pass roll having plural stands. Next, after high frequency heating the welding edge, welding is performed making the metal flow angle θ ≥50° by adjusting the rolling reduction of the welding roll. By this way, temperature distribution in the direction of thickness of the weld zone is improved and welding heat efficiency is increased. At the same time, workability of the weld zone can be improved remarkably.
