Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide lining refractories for steel making furnaces having tuyeres that can be used stably at high temp. by using electromolten magnesia lime clinker together with other refractory raw materials. CONSTITUTION:A lining refractory material for tuyeres and parts around the tuyeres of an AOD furnace for refining of stainless steel, a converter for special refining, etc. is made of high purity electromolten MgO-CaO base clinker of less Fe2O3 (about <=0.1%). Here, Here, Fe2O3 has effect of accelerating sintering, but forms calcium-ferrite by binding with CaO and is therefore undesirable for slag resistance. MgO:CaO is kept at about 10:90-90:10, and grain sizes at about >=0.2mm.. Other refractory raw materials such as electromolten or sintered lime clinker and the like are compounded with about 80-20wt% (about 100% in some cases) the MgO- CaO clinker and these are fired or unfired, whereby the refractories are obtained. The refractories are highly resistant to corrosion, abrasion, and thermal and mechanical spalling.
