Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber which has excellent laying characteristics and is never applied with unreasonable force at its connection part, by making connections by using universal joints. CONSTITUTION:Two optical fibers 1a are contained in waterproof pipe 1b serving as a feeder, the end of the optical fiber 1a is inserted into an anchor cone 2 having a hole extending axially in the center, and this cone 2 is sandwiched in between a retaining ring 5 and a retaining component 6 in one body by being tightened with a bolt 4. A branch component 14 is inserted into the top of a flanged sleeve 9, and the optical fiber elongated from the branch component 14 and a feeding conductor 12 are connected mutually in the space 15 in a metallic housing 7. The metallic housing of the both are connected together a universal joint 18 which has a hole through which the feeding conductor and a hydraulic-pressure resisting tube 13 are inserted. The universal joint 18 consists of a gimbal 18a, an inner ring 18b, an outer ring 18c, and pins 18d and 18e.
