PURPOSE:To hold invariably secure operation timing by advancing a head base plate to a recording and playback position by the remaining action of a container driving plate after a container reaches the recording and playback position. CONSTITUTION:When a cassette comes to a recording and playback position, a container driving plate 12 moves back because there is a part remaining at the lower horizontal part 42b of a guiding groove 42 for the upward and downward movement of a container, and this movement permits a lock pin 57 at the side of a sliding plate 17 to turn by pushing the lock piece 56 of a coupling restriction lever 49, so that a lock roller 51 enables a rotary arm 52 to rotate. Through the action of the container driving plate 12, an operating roller 52e pushes the operating arm 52d of the rotary arm 52, so a head base plate 46 advances to the recording and playback position. Therefore, the head base plate 46 is advanced to the recording and playback position slightly lagging the point in time when the cassette is loaded at the recording and playback position, loading the cassette smoothly and properly.
