Abstract

PURPOSE:To read a stripe discrimination number accurately by reading a discrimination code and a discrimination code of a complementary number recorded on a discrimination track, by inverting one of two codes, and by making a decision on the basis of coincidence between both the codes. CONSTITUTION:On a discrimination track 2-0 for discriminating each stripe 2, a discrimination code ID for discriminating the number of the stripe 2 and a discrimination code ID' forming the complementary number of the code ID are recorded. Then, the code ID read by a ZM decoder circuit 3 is stored in a shift register S via a shift register 4. This code ZD and the code ID' stored in the register 4 by way of the circuit 3 in succession and inverted by inverters 6- are compared mutually by a comparing circuit 7 and when the both coincide with each other, the normalcy of the data is discriminated. Therefore, neither the same readout error nor the same decoding error occuring when the same repeatitive pattern is decoded occurs, and stripe discrimination numbers are read accurately.
