Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform a multifunctional display by changing the respective cathode potentials of a number of electron guns, controlling the acceleration voltage of an electron beam, and scanning a penetration-type phosphor screen by means of electrostatic deflection. CONSTITUTION:A phosphor screen 24 which is applied and formed on the inner surface of a panel 22 which forms a part of a vacuum enclosure 21 consisting of glass, etc. is of a penetration-type phosphor screen which is composed of long and short persistence phosphors. The electron gun which is opposed to this phosphor screen 24 consists of two electron guns 25a and 25b. The cathode potential of the electron guns 25a and 25b is fixed to different values. As a result, the electron beam which differs in the acceleration voltage is deflected by deflection electrodes 26 and 27 and the phosphor screen 24 is scanned.
