Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve reliability of the defrosting operation of a heat pump type air conditioner, by using as a frost detecting element a humidity sensing element that causes negative change of resistance to the change of relative humidity or a dew sensor that causes change in resistance in response to the dewing.
CONSTITUTION: When dew deposits on an element 1 during operation of an air conditioner, the value of resistance of a dew sensor is increased, and output voltage V of a resistance-voltage converting circuit 2 becomes higher than a first reference value V1. At the same time, a defrosting operation starting signal is produced from a first comparison circuit 13 and maintained in a holding circuit 7. Subsequently, when defrosting of the element 1 is completed by defrosting operation, the value of resistance of the element 1 is lowered and output voltage V of the resistance-voltage converting circuit 2 becomes lower than a second reference value V2. Resultantly, a defrosting operation stopping signal is produced from another comparison circuit 5 and the holding circuit 7 is reset. With such an arrangement, it is enabled to enhance the reliability of defrosting operation.
