Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled essence consisting essentially of saccharides and amino acids advantegeously, by hydrolyzing powder of coix seed with hydrochloric acid, reacting the hydrolyzate with trichlorofluoroethane, followed by concentrating the top layer part and the middle layer part of the divided three parts under reduced pressure. CONSTITUTION:Powder of coix seed is hydrolyzed with ten times amount of 2N hydrochloric acid. The prepared muddy substance is stirred with the same amount of trichlorotrifluoroethane and allowed to stand so that the solution is separated into three layers. The top layer and the middle layer are concentrated under reduced pressure, to give an essence obtained by hydrolysis of coix seed useful as an improved humectant. The blend of it and a cosmetic prevents the dryness of the skin and hair, and provides softness. The blend has tyrosinase inhibiting actions, and prevents the formation of melanine. When the bottom layer of the divided three layers is concentrated under reduced pressure, a liquid oil consisting essentially of free fatty acis is obtained. This oil is not viscous and has no tackiness, its application to the skin and hair provides gloss.
