Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high quality plated wire with good solderability and a long soldering life by a method wherein copper plating is applied to a copper alloy wire and, subsequently, electric solder plating or tin plating is applied and, thereafter, heat melting treatment is carried out.
CONSTITUTION: To a wire body comprising a copper alloy containing 90% or less copper, copper plating is applied in a thickness of 2W8μ to impart excellent solder wettability thereto. Subsequently, solder plating or tin plating is applied in a thickness of 3W15μ by electroplating and, thereby, pinholes or pits present in the plated layer are eliminated and, at the same time, a surface thereof is made smooth as well as a composition of solder plating or the like is made uniform. By this method, a high quality lead wire, the contact segment of an electric connector or the like can be produced.
