Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a concrete structure having a desired strength under water by placing a fresh concrete containing a thickening agent in an amount enough to give it a consistency meeting a given condition required when constructing a steel bar- reinforced concrete structure under water.
CONSTITUTION: Portland cement is mixed with water to form a cement paste of a water-cement ratio of 60%, and the cement paste is further mixed with a thickening agent of polyacrylamide. Then, the mixture is flowed from the surface of 400cc of water put in a cylinder 5cm in diameter and 40cm high and allowed to stand until it is hardened. Then, samples are taken from the 5cm range of each of the uppermost and lowermost parts of the hardened mixture, and the difference in specifid gravity between them is measured. When the difference in specific gravityis below 0.1, the fresh, concrete of such a consistency can be placed under water to provided hardened concrete having sufficient strength.
