Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain wormlike graphite cast iron having good castability and mechanical properties by adding a specific ratio of Mischmetal to molten cast iron specified of carbon equiv. and content of sulfur.
CONSTITUTION: The intended wormlike graphite cast iron is obtained by adding 0.1W0.5wt% Mischmetal to molten cast iron contg. 4.6W5.5wt% carbon equiv. and ≤0.035wt% sulfur. Its tensile strength is further improved by further adding 0.01W0.5wt% Zr to the above-described added materials. Namely, the formation of cementite accompanied with the addition of the Mischmetal is prevented by controlling the components of the molten cast iron, whereby the wormlike graphite cast iron of good mechanical properties is obtained.
