Abstract
PURPOSE: To considerably reduce the amount of Pb, Zn, Cu or like contained in slag by smelting sulfide ore to crucde metal by oxidation in a molten state in the presence of calcium or sodium ferrite slag.
CONSTITUTION: Ferrite slag contains FeO and CaO or FeO and Na2O as principal components. Calcium ferrite slag consists of, by wt., 15W35% CaO, <7% SiO2 and the balance FeO, and sodium ferrite slag consists of, by wt., 15W35% Na2O, <7% SiO2 and the balance FeO. When sulfide ore of Pb, Zn, Cu or the like is melted and smelted, by producing said ferrite slag using limestone, soda ash or the like as a flux, the amount of Pb, Zn, Cu or the like contained in slag is reduced considerably.
