Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce liquid crystal display elements with less number of working steps and with good dimensional accuracy by cutting the reference plane side of the elements requiring high dimensional accuracy with a high-speed rotary grinding wheel, and cutting and separating the other side face with a cemented carbide wheel or the like in production of said elements by multipiece manufacture. CONSTITUTION:In obtaining individual liquid crystal elements by cutting and separating common glass substrates 1, 2 of multiple pieces of liquid crystal display elements at intended cutting lines 3, 4 and 5, the sizes 9 and 10 up to a reference plane 8 and electrodes 7 for the purpose of mutual positioning of the lead-out electrodes 7 and the driving terminals provided to watch modules for example, in case of incorporating the liquid crystal elements to watch modules are required to have high-dimensional accuracy and therefore, the intended cutting line 3 thereof is cut and separated with a high speed rotary grinding wheel. The lead-out electrode planes 11 where a permissible range of dimensional accuracy is widely taken, that is, the intended cutting lines 4, 5 are cut and separated by a scribing method using a cemented carbide wheel or diamone point. In this way, the need for providing grooves 6 by a high-speed grinding wheel on the substrate 2 is eliminated, the number of steps is reduced, and the individual elements are obtained with high dimensional accuracy.
