Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a device of good heat resistance, superior orientation characteristic and display performance and of a long life by coating a mixture of compounds of the group of long-chain alkyl and long-chain fluoroalkyl silane, and the group of silane oligomer and heating the same to set thereby forming vertically oriented films. CONSTITUTION:One or more kinds of respective groups from the group A of the compounds expressed by the formulas (1)-(4) (R is alkyl of <=10C, l=1-10, m= 4-24, n=10-26) and the group B expressed by the formula (5) (R<1>, R<2> are OH or hydrocarbons, (k) is positive integer) are mixed within the range of (Si)B/(Si)A= 0.1-6 the ratio between the Si atoms of the B group compounds and the Si atoms of the A group compounds and the solution prepd. by dissolving the mixture in diethylene glycol ether or the like is coated on the surface of the SiO2 films 2 on substrates 1 and the transparent electrodes 3 thereon and is dried and heated, whereby vertically oriented film 4 are formed. Thereby, the long life device of superior orientation characteristic which will not degrade despite thermal heating of its sealing part 5 is obtained.
