Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform coating of an extra thin film by a small and stable roll gap by pressing either one of mutually adjacent coating rolls to the other roll by way of air or an elastic body such as spring.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to the start of coating, an applicator rol 3 and a backing roll 5 are pulled back by air cylinders 11, 11' to open the spacing from a transfer roll 12. After a substrate film 6 is passed to the backing roll 5, the air cylinder 11' is pushed out to press the roll 5 to the roll 12. Thence, the air cylinder 11 is pushed out to press the roll 3 to the roll 12, then a coating film 7 is coated on the film 6. At this time, a coating liquid film is stably formed on the contact surface of the roll 3 and the roll 12 by the air cylinder 11, whereby the roll gap is formed and maintained.
