Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent agglomeration due to abnormal cohesion of a monomer and latex particles and thereby to make it possible to conduct a continuous operation for a long time, by continuously feeding a monomer and a dispersion stabilizer to at least two points in an emulsion/suspension polymerization.
CONSTITUTION: A monomer and a dispersion stabilizer are fed, each divided in portions, in an emulsion/suspension polymerization process consisting of adding a monomer to a latex obtained by emulsion polymerization and suspension-polymerizing further the latex. Namely, a latex from a storage tank 1 and a coagulant from a storage tank 3 are passed through a creaming apparatus 11, a particle former 12 and a suspension polymerizer 13 and, on the way, a monomer from a storage tank 5 and a dispersion stabilizer from a storage tank 7 are continuously added to each of the apparatuses 11, 12 and 13. The produced polymer is transported via a washing filter 14 and a drier 15 to a polymer bin 16.
