Abstract

PURPOSE:To automatically control the temp. of a fixation device in such a way that it attains an optimum fixation temp. for paper by detecting a reactance change in accordance with the thickness of the paper and detecting the quantity of transmitted light of the paper. CONSTITUTION:When paper is inserted between the disc-like members 6, 8 of the 1st detecting means 24 detecting the thickness of paper and a roller 10, the members 6, 8 displace according to the thickness of the paper and the reactance of a coil 4 changes, and therefore the electric current flowing in the coil 4 changes. The paper passes between the luminous body 28 and photosensitive element 30 of the 2nd detecting means 36 and during this time the quantity of transmitted light through the paper is measured. The signal from the 1st detecting means 24 and the signal from th 2nd detecting means 36 are conducted to a temp. control circuit 22, and the temp. of a fixation device is so controlled as to attain the fixation temp. optimum for the paper to be used.
