Abstract

PURPOSE:To quickly, simply split and separate a slab, by forcibly feeding a slab, after subjecting it to a rough rolling pass given by a hot strip mill, into a gap of a couple of upper and lower slitter rolls in order to split and separate it. CONSTITUTION:A slab 4 is subjected to a rough rolling pass given by a hot strip mill; this slab 4 is then pinched by a couple of pinch rolls 9, 9' and is forcibly fed into a gap between a couple of slitter rolls 2, 2'. By employing a feeding device like this, even if the slab 4 is thick walled, a single pass with the slitter knives 3, 3' can perfectly split the slab 4. Thus split slab 4 is separated into two halves; during one of two halves of the slab 4 is being fed to a rolling pass, another one is laid at a stand-by position for a next rolling pass.
